Fabio Mazza, born in Cosenza (Italy) in 1968, graduated in Civil Engineering with honours at the University of Calabria (Italy) in 1993. He is Associate Professor of "Structural Engineering" (ICAR/09) at the University of Calabria (Cosenza). He is Ph. Doctor of Computational Mechanics. He previously was: C.N.R. scholarship holder (1994-95), tutor of the National Group for Protection against Earthquakes to evaluate the seismic vulnerability of buildings inn Calabria (1998-99), research fellow (1999-2003); researcher of "Structural Engineering". He is giving the course of Earthquake Engineering and Structural Engineering of Reinforced and Prestressed Concrete at the University of Calabria. He is a member of the Ph. Doctorate of Civil and Industrial Engineering. He is author of about 150 scientific papers, for the most part regarding topics of Earthquake, Wind and Fire Engineering: modelling and nonlinear dynamic analysis of fire-damaged r.c. framed structures; passive control of seismic or wind vibrations through isolation and/or energy dissipation; modelling and nonlinear static and dynamic analysis of two- and three-dimensional reinforced concrete (r.c.) structures; modelling and nonlinear analysis of composite steel-concrete beam-column sub-assemblages; assessment of the seismic vulnerability of r.c. buildings. He has been scientific responsible for projects financed by the University of Calabria (projects "Young Researchers", for years 2001 and 2003) and M.I.U.R. ( Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research) since 2005. He is responsible of a research unit for Re.L.U.I.S. (Italian network of university laboratories of earthquake engineering) for a research line regarding “Control of seismic vibrations of structures”. He also participated to research units for P.R.I.N. (Scientific Research Program of Relevant National Interest) in 1999, 2003 and 2007. He presented papers at several national and international conferences. He has been referee of the many International Journals (e.g. Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics, Engineering Structures, Smart Structures and Systems, Journal of Sound and Vibration, Recent Patent on Computer Science, Wind and Structures). He is member of many technical and scientific associations. Among these: Italian Association of Wind Engineering (AA.N.I.V.), Italian Association of Earthquake Engineering (A.N.I.D.I.S.), Italian Working-Group of Seismic Isolation (G.L.I.S.), Anti--Seismic Systems International Society (A.S.S.I.S.I.), Italian Association of Concrete Structure (A.I.C.A.P.), Italian Association of Steel Structures (C.T.A.).
