Dr. Kaan Yetilmezsoy is a Professor of Environmental Engineering Department, Civil Engineering Faculty, at Yildiz Technical University, Davutpasa Campus, Esenler, Istanbul, TURKEY. He received BSc in both Environmental Engineering (First Rank Graduate in both Department of Environmental Engineering and Faculty of Civil Engineering, 2002, GPA: 3.86/4.00) and Civil Engineering (graduated as High Honor Student, 2004, GPA: 3.60/4.00) from Yildiz Technical University (2nd rank graduate). He also obtained MSc (Numerical Analysis Approach to Absorption Tower Design, 2004, GPA: 3.79/4.00) and PhD (Treatability of Poultry Manure Wastewater Using Anaerobic Sludge Bed Reactor, 2008, GPA: 3.90/4.00) in Environmental Engineering from Yildiz Technical University.

His areas of interest include design of water and wastewater treatment plants, post-treatment technologies, fluid mechanics and hydraulics, environmental modeling, linear/non-linear regression analysis-based modeling, artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems (ANFIS), statistical analysis, verification and validation methods, parametric and non-parametric tests, numerical analysis, anaerobic digestion processes, post-treatment technologies, MAP precipitation, Fenton's oxidation, composite desirability functions, empirical modeling, absorption tower (packed tower) design, kinetic modeling, RSM-based experimental design, multi-objective optimization techniques, MATLAB® programming, and scientific computation for engineers.

He has 148 publications including 114 refereed international journal papers, 10 national journal papers, 18 conference proceedings, 1 international book chapter, and 5 books entitled Water Supply and Sewerage Applications (Turkish Water Foundation Publications, ISBN: 975-6455-16-0, 1st Edition, 2004, and ISBN: 978-975-6455-16-6, 2nd Edition, 2008, 3rd Edition, 2015), Operating Principles of Water Treatment Plants (Turkish Ministry of Forest and Water Affairs), and Statistics and Experimental Design for Environmental Engineers (ISTAC, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Environmental Protection and Waste Materials Recycling Industry and Trade Company, ISBN: 978-605-6326-974). According to Google Scholar Citations, his papers got 2837 citations including peer-reviewed journal papers, conference proceedings, thesis and scientific books. His h-index and i-index are 26 and 52, respectively.

In the last 14 years, he has performed research in the areas of anaerobic digestion technology artificial intelligence-based modeling and computation in Environmental Engineering. He has been Supervisor for 12 graduate theses (3 PhD and 9 MSc). He also developed two new courses (Graduate Degree: Application of Prediction Models in Environmental Engineering – 0416126 and Undergraduate Degree: Projection and Application in Environmental Engineering – 0412071) and taught at Department of Environmental Engineering, Yildiz Technical University. He also developed several new empirical equations (prediction models) dealing with optimum body diameter of air cyclones, required retention time in hindered settling, volume of completely mixed activated sludge reactor, packed tower design in physical ammonia absorption, dimensionless kinetic coefficient (inhibition parameter) for poultry wastes, waste sludge flow rate and aeration parameters in the steady-state completely mixed activated sludge process.

Prof. Yetilmezsoy teaches undergraduates (Wastewater Treatment Plant Hydraulics, Water Supply and Sewerage, Wastewater Treatment Plant Design, Water Treatment Plant Design, Biological Unit Operations, Projection and Application in Environmental Engineering, Technical Drawing and Design Geometry, Advanced Wastewater Treatment Technologies, Computer Applications in Environmental Engineering, Materials in Environmental Engineering) and graduates (Application of Prediction Models in Environmental Engineering, Optimization Applications in Environmental Engineering, Filtration) of Environmental Engineering Department at Yildiz Technical University.

He has been a Coordinator, an Adviser, and a Researcher of 1001 Turkish Scientific and Technologic Research Association (TUBITAK) Project and Yildiz Technical University KAP and GEP Projects. He has headed the Quality and Strategic Planning Committee of Department of Environmental Engineering, Yildiz Technical University since September 2009. He has served as a member of the Committee of Continuous Quality Improvement Education Project (EKSIP Project), Revolving Fund Team, Accreditation Committee, Inspection Committee, MUDEK Committee, Dicipline Investigation Committee, and the Committee for inspection of historical water galleries and cisterns in Davutpasa Campus at Yildiz Technical University. He has also served as the Panel Examiner and the External Adviser in the Turkish Scientific and Technologic Research Association (TUBITAK) for examining of the Scientific Reseach Project Proposals submitted to TUBITAK-CAYDAG, TUBITAK-3001, TUBITAK-2223, and the External Examiner in the Examining Committee for Doctoral Proficiency and MSc Thesis Defence Examinations. He is a recipient of 80 major awards from Turkish Scientific and Technologic Research Association (TUBITAK), Rectorship of Yildiz Technical University, Elsevier, Wiley, and other institutions. He is also a receipient of the Outstanding Young Scientist Award (GEBIP) of the year 2018 from Turkish Academy of Sciences (TUBA).
