Hosein Naderpour received his Ph.D. degree with high honors in Structural Engineering. He then joined Semnan University where he is presently Professor of Structural Engineering. Since joining the faculty of Civil Engineering at Semnan University, Dr. Naderpour has taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of structural engineering, numerical methods, mechanics of materials, structural stability, concrete structures, structural reliability, as well as soft computing. Dr. Naderpour is author of 60 papers published in journals and about 100 papers presented at national and international conferences. He has given several speeches in Switzerland, China, Australia, South Korea, Romania, Turkey, Canada, Hong Kong, Belgium, Portugal, Spain, Japan, Germany, Italy, Czech Republic and France. He is currently a chief member of Iranian Earthquake Engineering Association, Iran Concrete Institute (ICI), Iranian Society for Light Steel Framing (LSF), Iran's National Elites Foundation, Safe School Committee, Organization for Development, Renovation and Equipping Schools of Iran (DRES). Furthermore, he is currently the editor-in-chief of three international journals in the area of civil and mechanical engineering including Journal of Soft Computing in Civil Engineering (SCCE), Journal of Computational Engineering and Physical Modeling (CEPM) and Reliability Engineering and Resilience (REngR). His major research interests include: application of soft computing in structural engineering, seismic resilience, structural reliability, structural optimization and damage detection of structures.

Pouyan Fakharian received his B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil and Structural Engineering from Semnan University. Furthermore, he is a professional in the area of application of soft computing in Civil Engineering. He is a member of some associations such as the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the Iranian Society of Structural Engineering (ISSE), the Iran Concrete Institute (ICI), the Iranian Society of Steel Structures (ISSS), Iranian Geo-Synthetic Engineering Society (IGS). Pouyan serves as deputy editor in two international peer-reviewed journals of Journal of Soft Computing in Civil Engineering (Scopus indexed), Computational Engineering and Physical Modeling, and also as the guest editor of SN Applied Sciences (Springer) and Coordinator Editor in Journal of Rehabilitation in Civil Engineering (Scopus indexed). During his academic experience in university, he has performed lots of activities as an executive manager in many parts. Pouyan's awards and honors include the Top talent of Iran National Elites Foundation, 1st Top-Ranked Ph.D. Student at Semnan University, Faculty of Civil Engineering, the distinguished student among master students of Semnan University, Top 10% Ranked B.Sc. Student at Semnan University, Faculty of Civil Engineering. Pouyan was awarded the Publons Peer Review Awards of 2018 for being placed in the top 1% of reviewers. DANIAL JAHED ARMAGHANI received his Ph.D. degree in Civil-Geotechnics from the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Malaysia. He is currently working as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Technology Sydney. He published more than 300 articles in well-established ISI and Scopus journals, national, and international conferences. His published works have received more than 18000 citations. His research interests include tunneling, rock mechanics, piling technology, blasting environmental issues, applying artificial intelligence, and optimization algorithms in civil-geotechnics. He was among the world’s Top 2% Scientists, in 2020,  2021 and 2022.

Panagiotis G. Asteris is full professor, Head of the Civil Engineering Department and Director of Computational Mechanics at the School of Pedagogical & Technological Education, Athens, Greece. He received BS, MS and PhD degrees in civil engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Athens, Greece. His research focuses on Artificial Intelligence, Computational Mechanics, Soft Computing, Applied and Computational Mathematics and Masonry Materials and Structures. Professor Asteris is the author/editor of three books in computational structural engineering. He is also the editor-in-chief of the journals Metaheuristic Computing and Applications and the Open Construction and Building Technology Journal. He has also authored more than 200 publications on peer-reviewed international journals and is member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS). Dr. Faeze Khademi has been a bridge rating engineer with CN Railway since August 2017. In addition to her core responsibilities at the company, she has been an instructor for the Bridge Inspection Workshop series held by CN on a regular basis, entrusted by Human Resources (HR) to serve on the company’s interview panel for employment opportunities, and regularly sought-after to attend university career fairs as an ambassador to both represent CN and inspire interest from potential talent.
She received her M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in 2015 and 2017, respectively, in civil (structural) engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology. Additionally, she earned her second M.Sc. degree in industrial engineering, from the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) in 2022.
Dr. Khademi is the author of multiple top-cited articles in addition to acting as a technical manuscript reviewer for prominent scientific journals, including those published by ASCE and Elsevier. She received the "Publons Peer Review Awards 2018" for being among the top 1% of reviewers due to her extensive peer review records on the platform’s reviewer database. She has also been a member of the SEAOI annual bridge symposiums' organizing committee since 2020. Once established in academia, she was awarded the National Interest Waiver of the United States for her remarkable contributions to the field of civil engineering.

Dr Yiannis Tsompanakis is a civil engineer specialized in computational dynamic methods in engineering. He is Assoc. Professor in the School of Environmental Engineering of the Technical University of Crete, Greece, and Head of Computational Dynamics & Energy (CODEN) Research Group. He teaches undergraduate & postgraduate courses and has supervised PhD, MSc and Diploma theses. He is expert in development and application of advanced simulation techniques and computational methods for structures and infrastructures. His research and engineering interests and expertise include structural and geotechnical earthquake engineering, geoenvironmental engineering, soil-structure interaction, structural optimization, probabilistic mechanics, structural integrity assessment & monitoring, life-cycle analysis & performance-based design, and artificial intelligence methods. As an internationally recognized researcher he has published more than 200 publications (journal papers, international conference papers, book chapters, edited books and conference proceedings). He has also prepared special issues in journals and organized several conferences, special sessions and mini-symposia. He is reviewer in many archival scientific engineering journals. Dr Tsompanakis has excellent leadership, interpersonal and negotiating skills and many international cooperations with other scientific groups and engineering firms in Greece and abroad (USA, UK, Italy, Germany, France, Serbia, etc). He is highly skilled in implementation and management of quantitative/qualitative state-of-the-art research. He has significant practical and scientific experience from his participation in many national and international projects, working either with his group or jointly with other collaborating teams. He is Secretary of Technical Committee TC4: Life-cycle performance, cost and optimization ηηρ International Association for Structural Safety and Reliability (IASSAR). He is Organizer of the International Conference Series on Soft Computing Technology in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering. Moreover, he is Technical Editor of the Structure and Infrastructure Engineering Journal (Taylor & Francis Publ.).

CODEN Research Group consists of several under-graduate and post-graduate students and post-doc research associates. The scientific expertise of the CODEN Research Group focuses mainly in the broad area of Computational Dynamics. Main research and scientific fields with strong know-how of CODEN are related with this area. In particular, innovative computational tools and methodologies are developed and applied for the analysis and design of structures and infrastructures under static or dynamic/seismic loading. CODEN group main expertise is the development and application of advanced simulation techniques and computational methods for structures and infrastructures (buildings, geostructures, lifelines, etc). Research interests of CODEN group include structural and geotechnical earthquake engineering, soil-structure interaction, structural optimization, probabilistic mechanics, structural integrity assessment & monitoring, mitigation of geohazards, life-cycle analysis & performance-based design, artificial intelligence methods in engineering, etc. CODEN group has many cooperations with other scientific groups in Greece and other countries and has participated in national and international projects. CODEN group has given particular emphasis on various engineering problems related to geohazards for structures and energy infrastructure, aiming to assist in the protection of the environment, population and energy infrastructures (transportation networks, pipelines, plants, tanks, etc) from natural and man-made disasters. Indicative research fields: a) design of onshore and offshore gas pipelines against geohazards (active faults, landslides, soil liquefaction, etc), b) seismic design of liquid fuel tanks and storage terminals, c) onshore and offshore wind turbine design with emphasis on dynamic soil-structure interaction, d) seismic vulnerability of dams, waste landfills, tailings dams, etc.

He was born on December 26, 1968 in Gdynia. Graduate of the High School at the Consulate of the People's Republic of Poland in Benghazi, Libya (1987), student at the Gdańsk University of Technology (uniform master's studies, 1987-1991 and 1992-1993), University of Sheffield, England (engineering studies, 1991-1992), University of Roskilde, Denmark (Master's course, 1993) and University of Tokyo, Japan (doctoral studies, 1994-1997).

From the beginning of his professional career associated with the Gdańsk University of Technology: assistant-trainee (1992-1993), assistant (1993-1994), assistant professor (1998-2010), associate professor of PG (2010-2017), full professor of PG (from 2018). At the Gdańsk University of Technology he also obtained the degree of habilitated doctor (2007) and the title of professor of technical sciences (2014).

His research interests are related to seismic and paraseismic engineering and the dynamics of metal structures. He is the author / co-author of nearly 300 scientific publications, and his Hirsch index is: 21 (Web of Science - Core Collection), 25 (Scopus), 28 (Google Scholar). He also has 2 patents granted. He participated in the implementation of 10 research projects financed from domestic and foreign sources (including twice as project manager, once as deputy manager and once as team leader). He promoted 8 doctors (including 2 times as a co-promoter abroad), currently he is a promoter in 3 open doctoral dissertations and a supervisor of 1 doctoral student. He is a member of the editorial committees of 11 scientific journals and a member of 5 expert teams and committees.

He held a number of functions at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the Gdańsk University of Technology: dean's representative for vocational studies (2002-2005), dean's representative for the implementation of teaching in foreign languages ​​(2008-2012), deputy dean for education (2012-2016), deputy Head of the Department of Metal Structures and Construction Management (2016-2017). Currently, he is the head of the Department of Management in Construction and Seismic Engineering and the head of Doctoral Studies. He was also a member of the Rector's Commission for ECTS (2002-2003), the University Recruitment Commission (2000-2005) and the Senate Committee on Education (2012-2016). In addition, the chairman, vice-chairman and member of the Board of the Gdańsk Branch of the Polish Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (2009-2010, 2011-2012, 2013-2018),

He was awarded 20 individual prizes by the Rector of the Gdańsk University of Technology for scientific and didactic activities. He received the award of the Minister of Environmental Protection, Natural Resources and Forestry (1994), the award of the Gdańsk Scientific Society (1998), the scholarship of the Foundation for Polish Science (1999), the award of the IV Department of Technical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences (2008), the prize of W. Zong Woo Geem is an associate professor at Gachon University in South Korea.
He has obtained B.Eng. in Chung-Ang University, M.Eng. and Ph.D. in Korea University, and M.Sc. in Johns Hopkins University, and researched at Virginia Tech, University of Maryland - College Park, and Johns Hopkins University.
He invented a music-inspired optimization algorithm, Harmony Search, which has been applied to various scientific and engineering problems. His research interest includes phenomenon-mimicking algorithm and its applications to energy, environment and water fields.

Professor Qing Quan (Stephen) Liang is an Associate Professor of Structural Engineering in the College of Engineering and Science at Victoria University, Australia. He's also the Founder and President of the Australian Association for Steel-Concrete Composite Structures (AASCCS), a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and has served on the ASCE Technical Committees on Optimal Structural Design and Composite Construction. In 2005 Dr Liang received the State-of-the-Art of Civil Engineering Award from ASCE.

He has been a Guest Professor at Changsha University of Science and Technology, Central South University and Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology in China since 2003 and is also a member of the editorial boards of several international journals, including Steel and Composite Structures ― An International Journal.

Before joining Victoria University in 2008, Dr Liang was a Lecturer in Structural Design, Associate Head and Program Coordinator at the University of Southern Queensland, ARC Australian Postdoctoral Fellow and Research Associate at the University of New South Wales and Research Associate at University of Western Sydney.

His research focuses on developing efficient computational methods and computer simulation technologies for the optimal structural design and nonlinear inelastic analysis of steel-concrete composite structures, steel structures and concrete structures. He has published over 90 books, book chapters, journal articles and refereed conference papers. Dr Liang is the sole author of the research book Performance-Based Optimization of Structures: Theory and Applications and of the textbook Analysis and Design of Steel and Composite Structures published by Taylor and Francis Group. He also co-authored the research book Nonlinear Analysis of Concrete-Filled Steel Tubular Columns. More than 85% of his journal articles were published in SCImago Journal Rank Q1 international journals.

Dr Liang's teaching is directly informed by the latest research in structural engineering.

Prof Tshilidzi Marwala is the Vice-chancellor and Principal of the University of Johannesburg (UJ). Previously he was the deputy vice-chancellor for Research and Internationalisation and the executive dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, both at UJ.  

He progressively held the positions of Associate Professor, Full Professor, the Carl and Emily Fuchs Chair of Systems and Control Engineering, as well as the SARChI Chair of Systems Engineering at the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand. 

Tshilidzi, who's PhD specialised in Artificial Intelligence and Engineering, has published 11 books on artificial intelligence, one of which has been translated into Chinese, more than 280 papers in journals, proceedings, book chapters and magazines and holds three international patents. 

He is an associate editor of the International Journal of Systems Science (Taylor and Francis Publishers), has been a visiting scholar at Harvard University, University of California at Berkeley, Wolfson College of the University of Cambridge and Nanjing Tech University, as well as member of the programming council of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology in Poland. 

He has received more than 45 awards, including the Order of Mapungubwe.

Dr. Kaan Yetilmezsoy is a Professor of Environmental Engineering Department, Civil Engineering Faculty, at Yildiz Technical University, Davutpasa Campus, Esenler, Istanbul, TURKEY. He received BSc in both Environmental Engineering (First Rank Graduate in both Department of Environmental Engineering and Faculty of Civil Engineering, 2002, GPA: 3.86/4.00) and Civil Engineering (graduated as High Honor Student, 2004, GPA: 3.60/4.00) from Yildiz Technical University (2nd rank graduate). In the last 14 years, he has performed research in the areas of anaerobic digestion technology artificial intelligence-based modeling and computation in Environmental Engineering. He has been Supervisor for 12 graduate theses (3 PhD and 9 MSc). He also developed two new courses (Graduate Degree: Application of Prediction Models in Environmental Engineering – 0416126 and Undergraduate Degree: Projection and Application in Environmental Engineering – 0412071) and taught at Department of Environmental Engineering, Yildiz Technical University. He also developed several new empirical equations (prediction models) dealing with optimum body diameter of air cyclones, required retention time in hindered settling, volume of completely mixed activated sludge reactor, packed tower design in physical ammonia absorption, dimensionless kinetic coefficient (inhibition parameter) for poultry wastes, waste sludge flow rate and aeration parameters in the steady-state completely mixed activated sludge process.

Fabio Mazza, born in Cosenza (Italy) in 1968, graduated in Civil Engineering with honours at the University of Calabria (Italy) in 1993. He is Associate Professor of "Structural Engineering" (ICAR/09) at the University of Calabria (Cosenza). He is Ph. Doctor of Computational Mechanics. He previously was: C.N.R. scholarship holder (1994-95), tutor of the National Group for Protection against Earthquakes to evaluate the seismic vulnerability of buildings inn Calabria (1998-99), research fellow (1999-2003); researcher of "Structural Engineering". He is giving the course of Earthquake Engineering and Structural Engineering of Reinforced and Prestressed Concrete at the University of Calabria. He is a member of the Ph. Doctorate of Civil and Industrial Engineering. He is author of about 150 scientific papers, for the most part regarding topics of Earthquake, Wind and Fire Engineering: modelling and nonlinear dynamic analysis of fire-damaged r.c. framed structures; passive control of seismic or wind vibrations through isolation and/or energy dissipation; modelling and nonlinear static and dynamic analysis of two- and three-dimensional reinforced concrete (r.c.) structures; modelling and nonlinear analysis of composite steel-concrete beam-column sub-assemblages; assessment of the seismic vulnerability of r.c. buildings. (Italian network of university laboratories of earthquake engineering) for a research line regarding “Control of seismic vibrations of structures”. He also participated to research units for P.R.I.N. Dr. Sánchez-Silva main area of research is structural reliability and risk analysis. His work is directed mainly towards risk assessment and management of physical infrastructure related problems. Eisuke Kita was born in Japan in 1964. He moved straight from high school to School of Engineering of Mie University. After getting the bachelor and the master degree, he moved to Graduate School of Mechanical Engineering of the Nagoya University and graduated with the Doctor of Engineering in 1991. He spent 9 years in the School of Mechanical Engineering as a lecturer and an assistant professor, and 11 years in the School of Informatics and Science as an associate professor. He became, in 2009, the full professor of the Graduate School of Information Science of the Nagoya University. His publications include numerical analysis schemes, multi-agent traffic simulation, artificial market simulation, application of Bayesian network and so on. He earned the honor as Encouraging prize of Japan Society of Mechanical Engineering in 2000, Encouraging prize of Computer Science Committee of Information Processing Society of Japan in 2007 and 2009.

Research Content

There are many things that you do not know how it will happen to various objects in nature and society, such as environment, buildings, stock prices, transportation, ecosystems, networks, and the phenomena found there. Therefore, by simulating natural phenomena and social phenomena on a computer together with scientific knowledge of mathematics · computer and literary knowledge such as economics and psychology, and by taking advantage of these results, We are conducting research on stock price forecasting, data mining, traffic congestion mitigation and so on. While actively discussing, both the teacher and the students are learning together. People who are interested in various things are welcome. 1) Stock price forecast, company analysis, artificial market simulation, 2) easing traffic congestion, running in rows, 3) evolutionary calculations such as grammar evolution and so on.

Jalil Kianfar, Ph.D., joined Parks College of Engineering, Aviation, and Technology in January 2014 as Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering. He received his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Azad University-Najaf Abad, M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Azad University-Tehran South and his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri.

Over the past 10 years, Dr. Kianfar has conducted work and research in the field of transportation engineering in a variety of environments. He has been involved in development of simulation models for connected vehicles, evaluation of active traffic management strategies, development of travel demand forecasting models, and analysis of pedestrian and transit facilities. Dr. Kianfar’s research interests include traffic operations, traffic modeling and simulation, Intelligent Transportation Systems, connected vehicles, transportation safety, optimization and heuristic techniques.

Dr. Kianfar’s research interests include traffic operations, traffic modeling and simulation, Intelligent Transportation Systems, connected vehicles, transportation safety, optimization and heuristic techniques.

While studying at University of Missouri, Dr. Kianfar developed a connected vehicle simulation test-bed. The simulation test-bed provided a foundation to further investigate the various applications of connected vehicle technology. The test-bed was used to develop a framework for the placement of roadside equipment units (RSEs) in an urban network.
