Dr. Lagaros is an Associate Professor in the Institute of Structural Analysis and Antiseismic Research in the School of Civil Engineering in the National Technical University of Athens. He teaches Structural Analysis I, Structural Analysis II, Structural Analysis V-Plastic Analysis of Framed Structures, Introduction in Systems Optimization and Computer Applications in Civil Engineering. Dr. Lagaros is an active member of the structural-engineering research community, focusing on (a) nonlinear dynamic analysis of concrete and steel structures under seismic loading, (b) performance-based earthquake engineering, (c) structural design optimization of real-world structures, (d) seismic risk and reliability analysis, (e) neural network in structural engineering, (f) fragility evaluation of reinforced concrete and steel structures, (g) inverse problems in structural dynamics, (h) parallel and distributed computing – Grid computing technologies, (i) evolutionary computations and (j) geotechnical earthquake engineering.
Consultant, (1999-present)
Dr. Lagaros has provided consulting, peer-review and expert-witness services to private companies and federal government agencies in Greece. A focus of his consulting work is the assessment of buildings after earthquake events and the development of technical software for structural analysis and design.

Dr. Lagaros was a Lecturer at the School of Corps of Engineers of the Hellenic Army. He has joined the School in September 2007 and has taught Structural Analysis I, Structural Dynamics, Plastic Analysis of Framed Structures and Theory of Plates.
